1. What photography services do you offer?
I offer a wide range of business photography services, including headshot photography, professional portraits, editorial storytelling, conference and corporate event coverage, product and advertising photography, company PR shoots, and comprehensive business portfolios for PR use.
2. Where are you based?
My professional portrait studio is located in Girton, near Cambridge. However, my equipment is fully portable, allowing me to travel to various locations as needed. I frequently shoot across Cambridgeshire, in London, and beyond.
3. What is your photography style?
My photography style is created via the careful selection of camera, lenses, lighting, and post-processing techniques. I use professional camera bodies, lenses and off-camera strobes to achieve a polished look. While I aim for you to look your best, I prioritise authenticity and natural representation. I shy away from heavy retouching and AI imagery because I believe genuine and authentic images communicate much more.
4. I’m worried about having my photo taken. What should I expect?
It’s common to feel apprehensive about being photographed! I approach each photoshoot with friendly professionalism, creating a comfortable environment that helps bring out the best in you and your team. The result is natural, engaging images. Many of my clients not only enjoy their experiences with me, but also recommend my services and re-book future sessions!
Please take a look at my blog/articles for some hints and tips…
5. What should I wear for my photoshoot?
Choosing the right attire for your photoshoot can significantly impact the final images. I recommend wearing clothes that reflect your personal style and professionalism while avoiding outfits that are unrepresentative (only dress as smartly as you would do so for work)! Solid colours and classic styles often work best for headshots and portraits. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to provide guidance during the planning process. You can also read my guide here!
6. What industries do you shoot for?
I specialise in business and corporate photography, serving a diverse range of clients. My portfolio includes local businesses, well funded start-ups, and established companies both regionally and nationally. I regularly work with leaders in biotechnology, agri-technology, manufacturing, scientific research, tech, and education. Additionally, I regularly shoot projects for and through the University of Cambridge.
7. How long does a typical photoshoot take?
The duration of a photoshoot can vary depending on the type of session and specific requirements. For studio portrait sessions and headshot shoots, I usually allocate around 45 minutes to an hour. For events or more complex shoots, such as corporate PR portfolios, a half-day or full-day session is usually needed to capture all the necessary images. Please note that additional edit time is always required.
8. What is the booking and quoting process?
I provide quotes on a per-job basis since each commission is unique and influenced by various factors. Please reach out to me with project details, including a rough brief, shot list, and any reference images. This information is immensely helpful and enables me to quote accurately.
As a quick price guide, my studio portrait and headshot photography starts from £250, while product photography begins at £495. For conferences, events, and business portfolios, I typically charge half-day rates of £495-£595 and full-day rates of £695-£850. All quotes are based on the shoot and edit time combined, include my own costs and an assumption the high-resolution digital files will be delivered without limitations on their use. Please note that VAT is not applicable.
9. What happens if I need to reschedule my booking?
Life can be unpredictable and I understand that plans may change. If you need to reschedule your booking, please contact me as soon as possible. I will do my best to accommodate a new date, depending on my availability.
10. Do you shoot weddings?
Yes, I do shoot weddings! I began my photography career in Cambridge as a wedding photographer and continue to take on selected wedding and family photography commissions. If you’d like to discuss wedding photography or family sessions, please visit www.mikethorntonphotography.com
